Fall Quarter 2020

Our 2020 Fall Quarter has begun … with a few changes. The Academy continues to follow recommendations from state and federal health authorities for re-opening. Along with social distancing, studio hours have been organized to limit the number of students working during each shift. Masks are a strict requirement.

Fall / Autumn is considered by many to be the most colorful and dramatic of all the seasonal changes. It is a time of year associated with the harvest and in ancient periods, accompanying bacchanals. Over time these seasonal celebrations gave way to less lively, but more reputable observances like Harvest Festival in Britain or Thanksgiving in the US.

No other season blends the exuberance of change with the sobering reminder of mortality as does this time of the year – also associated with the concept of melancholia. As the earth tilts, daylight hours become shorter announcing the approaching chill of winter and the passing of the year. It is a season of remembrance when many different cultures around the world honor the dead through celebrations such as All Soul’s Day and All Hallows’ Eve.
