The history of Art reminds us that drawing is much more than getting a likeness of something. In fact, the Italian language does not differentiate between the word “drawing” and the word “design”. The imagination of the Renaissance draftsman, even when making a study of a single subject, was never far removed from the larger concepts of composition and design.
The Academy of Classical Design's Prints and Drawings Studio is a dedicated space to copy and study the great compositions from the history of Art, with the aim of developing the visual vocabulary and taste required to create new works of complexity and beauty.
