A mong the great capital cities of Europe, London is perhaps more closely associated with literature than the fine arts. However, the wealth and accessibility of its extraordinary collections, like the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum and the National Gallery, makes it an irresistible destination for our Grand Tour.

Founded two thousand years ago by the Romans after their conquest of Britannia, London eventually became the center of the British Empire, often described as successor to the Roman Empire. Many of the world’s greatest works of art were collected here over the centuries and displayed in public and private collections. Just as the young English gentleman travelled the continent in search of the art and culture of antiquity, so London has become for the modern student of art, a necessary stopping point to study firsthand the treasures of Western Civilization.
